About Dr. Smith

dr. smith headshotMy practice is dedicated to helping clients improve their lives through personal growth. I am a clinical psychologist and a licensed clinical social worker in New York City. I have been in private practice specializing in multicultural counseling for more than 20 years, working with individuals, couples, families and groups.

A fundamental tenet of my practice is inclusivity with respect to racial or ethnic identity, country of origin, physical ability, sexual and gender preference, and spiritual and religious affiliation.

My postgraduate work includes psychoanalytical training at the Karen Horney Institute, Modern Psychoanalysis Analysis and Group Studies at The Center for Group Studies. My coaching studies have been with Growth, Inc., and I have done advanced postgraduate study toward a Master Personal Coach certificate at Mentor Coach.

In addition, I lecture and present seminars on mental health issues; My specialty is post-traumatic stress disorder. My experience also includes facilitating motivational and personal growth groups and workshops. I have worked extensively with children, adolescents and adults and the physically challenged in the New York public school system and various mental health organizations.
